Sunday, August 26,2007 - 4:00 p.m. Knights of Columbus Alex was diagnosed with advanced (Stage 4) Ovarian Cancer in March of 2007 at the age of 35. Her Cancer has metastasized to just about everything in the abdomen. She had undergone 2 chemotherapy treatments at Karmanos in April and May, when her Kidney failed and she developed a fever. Chemo had to be stopped. She was put on Dialysis and had 10 treatments. Her Doctors decided to do surgery on June 8, 2007. The surgery was successful and the doctors think they got most of the cancer. She is resuming chemotherapy on June 29th. Alex has not worked in several months due to her illness and has been hospitalized for most of her treatment. Her Mother, Phyllis, who has also lost her husband to cancer, had to leave her job to care for Alex. She is by her side day in and day out, and sleeps at the hospital as well. Alex has medical insurance, but coverage is not 100%. Her medical expenses and prescription costs are becoming overwhelming. Each Chemo treatment alone will cost Alex $1,000.00 after the insurance payment.
